Opening in 1910, along with the commissioning of the railway line, the Railway Store soon became the hub of the community in Freestone. Always a home, initially there was just the store at the front, however not long after WW2, the post office and telephone exchange was added. 3 families derived their living from the store and enjoyed many happy years in the home before it eventually closed in 1973 and has been a private dwelling since.
